Paris - New York Upcoming Showjumping Icon, brilliantly passionate about life.

- Where are you?

In Le Breuil en Auge, in Normandy, about 20km away from Deauville, on a 120-acre property encompassing a wonderful balance of open fields, rolling hills, and state-of-the-art equestrian facilities.

I moved to Normandy just over a year ago from New York to start my business. My mission is, on the one hand, to source and develop promising show jumpers, and, on the other, to focus on my career, on fulfilling my personal aspirations.

- How are your horses?

At the moment, I own 50% of three horses ridden by my business partner, French young rider Edward Levy, for commercial exploitation, and the entirety of three others that I ride myself, Ur de Peleben, Unik Celco, and Aphrodite. My two top mounts are Ur and Unik; both are competitive at the 1.35m and 1.40m levels and show promising potential for more. Ur is a funny horse with a big personality. He has his way of going, and is truly a poster child to what a good program and good management can do. He thrives off of my system and has improved tremendously in a short period of time. Unik is easier to manage day in and day out, and is a more classic ride. He has less spark to his character, but always tries his best to meet the expectations.

- When did you start riding and when did you thought it would be your Profession?

I had quite a late start in the sport. I caught the horse bug when I was 15 years old, in upstate NY, and had ever since dreamt of turning my passion into a career. My parents weren’t horse-people, but I talked them into building a 5-stall barn, paddocks, and an outdoor ring on our property in Ancramdale, NY. Even as a teenager, I ran it like a little business! So the idea of becoming a professional had always been in the back of my mind, but I had yet to find the right circumstances.

I moved to France and out of my comfort zone right after I graduated from college in 2015 because not only did I feel like something was missing, but the cost of practicing the sport in the U.S. stifled my ambitions. I knew the European experience would mend the gaps and eventually unlock doors to opportunities and possibilities. And as a matter of fact, I have gained invaluable experience, have met the right people at the right time and everything has fallen into place.

- What is your daily program?

Monday through Wednesday, I set my alarm at 6:30 am and am usually at the barn by 7:45am. I help around with the daily barn chores and the basic horse care tasks before I start working with my horses.

The program I implement for my horses emphasizes both athletic performance and psychological well-being, and caters to individual needs. I alternate flatwork with light days spent stretching, hacks through the woods or on the beach, or with days off to graze in the pasture. I take my horses out no less than three times a day, sometimes just for a 15-minute handwalk, and make sure they have time to relax out of the confines of their stalls.

Thursdays are generally when I head on out to a competition with two to three horses. I travel every week to shows across France and abroad; I feel like I spend my life packing and unpacking my suitcase!

- What is your daily food and health rituals?

I am a true health and wellness aficionado. I put a lot of time and effort into feeding my body the right way – which sometimes can be difficult when I’m away at horse shows for the weekend.

I avoid processed, packaged foods and sugar-sweetened beverages at all costs and feed my body only with honest, real ingredients. I see food as fuel for the body and mind, so I stay away from anything that doesn’t have nutritional value. I also sleep 8 to 9 hours each night and if I have time I take a nap right after lunch so I am alert and productive in the afternoon.

- Mental preparation?

My philosophy is to extract the positive from any given situation and not get wrapped up in the outcome of something. I always try to surround myself with people who radiate good vibes and positive energy, to appreciate the little things in life, to take pride in the successes and achievements, to learn from mistakes and bounce back from adversity.

My mental preparation is simply to stay relaxed and focused, to live in the moment and to never let my emotions get the best of me. Whenever I feel pressure or anxiety, I light up some candles and perform mindful breathing exercises.

- what do you admire?

I admire people who work their way to the top of the sport very little financial means, simply through diligence.

- How do you work on your competition program?

I put in place a yearly plan for each horse, and, from there work down to an individual program, each month, each week, each day, to achieve those annuals goals. However, I try not to get caught in expectations; I also listen to my horses, assess their form and progression, and make decisions accordingly.

To prepare my horses for a competition, very rarely do I jump a course at home. Before heading out to a show on a Thursday for example, I will usually work the horses on the flat on Monday, do a gymnastics exercise on Tuesday, and let them relax and stretch out their top line with a session on the lunge line.

- What is Your Obsession?

I am obsessed with living in the present moment, not letting past experiences or future expectations affect my piece of mind, and most importantly not letting life pass me by. I am lucky enough to do what I love every single day, without moderation, so I want to enjoy every moment.

- What is your dream?

I try to stay humble and grounded, to not set my expectations too high. I first want to focus on 2017 to see what I’m able to accomplish and go from there. I can’t say that I don’t dream big, but I never ahead of myself. Most important is forming strong partnerships with my horses, believing in the system that I have and not cutting any corners.

I think a realistic goal for me next year would be to qualify for and compete in the French Championships in Fontainebleau (Championnat de France de CSO des Cavalieres).

- What do you love about horses?

What I love about horses is the relationship of trust, of mutual respect and the bond that arise in being part of their every day. Horses are incredible creatures, always willing to please and give their best. We learn from them as much as they learn from us.

- What do you love about this sport?

What I love about this sport is that I learn something new everyday; and the more I learn and the more experience I gain, the more I realize how much I don't know. Show jumping is very humbling; skills may be understood, acquired but are rarely mastered. you learn every day, not just from being on a horse, but from spending time with them, or by watching others.

The keys to success in the sport are hard work, perseverance and patience, and it is important not to take anything for granted. You can never go into the show ring too confident because every day is a new day. There are ups and downs, there are disappointments and there is frustration along the way, but the high points are so worthwhile.

- What do you think of our society today?

I try to stay away from all the crises and the negativity. I think people spend too much time worrying about things that are unimportant, creating and fighting over problems that shouldn't exist. I ignore the drama and stay in my own bubble.

- Secret favorite place?

On my property in upstate NY, I had placed a little wooden bench on top of a hill with an all-encompassing view of the countryside. I loved to sit on that bench to take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy a moment’s piece and quiet.

- Any message?

My babies are great. They are starting to get along.

I started having birds when i was very little. I have had Nelson for 5 years now and Kiki for almost a month.

What is your daily program?

Well since Kiki arrived i wake up at 8 am because she screams. Then it's coffee and taking care of the plants, maybe Some piano and if i'm free i would geek on the net or watch tv shows haha

What is your daily food, health rituals?

I start with coffee maybe a toast and then fruits. I might have light lunch then fruits all afternoon haha. I love to cook so at night i would cook something nicer
